Introducing Mike McNamara

"I believe that one man can make a difference.” – Mike McNamara

Travis County taxpayers rely on excellent Travis County leadership, especially the County Judge, to produce thoughtful decisions that boost our economic viability and prosperity. This can be done effectively by examining every budget commitment while, at the same time, reducing the tax burden on its citizens. As the next Travis County Judge, Republican candidate Mike McNamara will bring timely leadership that is fiscally responsible for our long-term interests.

The Travis County Judge, elected county-wide, has a direct impact on decisions related to some of the most important budgetary issues facing our community, including transportation, tax rates, economic development, and the overall scope of the County budget. The Judge serves as the executive member of the Commissioners Court, and oversees County operations, setting the agenda and priorities for the decisions made by the Court.

Mike’s Commitment to Travis County

Mike McNamara has 30 years of private sector management, training and experience. He will use his unique perspective as a business executive and civic leader to responsibly address the important issues for Travis County taxpayers. Mike is committed to having the necessary roads and transportation infrastructure for mobility and commerce in the County. He will provide much-needed leadership on personnel matters within the County, including staffing the vital sheriff’s and police departments. Furthermore, he will work to lower Travis County taxes by spearheading appraisal reform initiatives. At a time when our businesses and our families are struggling to maintain our traditional Central Texas prosperity, Mike McNamara will provide a healthy dose of fiscally responsible leadership for Travis County.

Homegrown hero

Mike McNamara is a fourth-generation Austinite, and he was born and raised in our Capitol city. Mike comes from a long line of successful entrepreneurs and military servants. His great-grandfather settled in Travis County in the late 1800’s after a career in the U.S. Army and opened a general store in what is now East Austin around 11th Street. His parents had a bakery here in Austin until the late 1950’s.

Mike is the youngest of six children with whom he grew up in the Travis Heights neighborhood. He graduated from Travis High School in 1965. Mike is a Vietnam-era veteran, having served in the Navy from 1967 to 1974. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from The University of Texas, and began his career working in technical documentation for Texas Instruments, Tracor, Austron, and currently, for SCCI. Mike has worked nearly 30 years in the technology and defense industries, where he has served as a project manager and team leader for state and national business development projects. He knows how to team with other leaders to get things done.

A Family and Community Man

Mike and his wife, Julia, recently celebrated 17 years of marriage. He is the proud step-parent of four married children, 11 grandchildren, and two great- grandchildren. People, Planning, Prosperity

He is not afraid to ask the important questions and make the wise decisions that are necessary for re-establishing responsible government for Travis County. As your next County Judge, Mike McNamara will steer Travis County on a path of fiscal responsibility in alignment with the interests of its citizens and their future.
